Life is a journey…

And it is a good idea to make sure your estate plan is up-to-date and in step with your life along the way. No matter your life stage, I can help you create an estate plan. Every stage of life includes unique challenges – let’s work together to make sure your estate plan is what you need right now.

Planning For Married Couples

As a married couple (with no minor children) you have two priorities – protecting your hard-earned assets and one another. If you have a will, that’s a great start. But – only a start. Having an estate plan, that helps you avoid probate, is the best way to ensure your spouse doesn’t suffer through unnecessary and stressful legal complications should you become incapacitated or die.

Planning for Minor Children

Who will care for your minor child if something happens to you? If their other parent is no longer living, incapacitated or otherwise not qualified to serve, you need to name a guardian who can provide care for your child and manage the assets. If you don’t appoint a guardian, the court will … and that is not a decision you should leave to strangers.

Planning For Blended Families

Perhaps you have children from a previous marriage … and your current spouse has children from a previous marriage. Or only one of you has children from a previous marriage but you have a child now with your current spouse. There are a variety of scenarios that fall into the “blended family” category. Whatever your situation, blended families offer unique challenges.

Planning for Single or Divorced Individuals

Think estate planning is only for those with families? Or people with significant wealth? Not true. While you may, or may not, have kids to worry about or lots of money to protect, estate planning is very much for you.

Planning During Earning Years

For many people, usually between ages 40 and 55, peak earning years can also mean more family responsibilities, financial opportunities, and challenges. These years can be the “best of times”. Most assuredly they are some of the busiest you’ll ever experience. One thing you know for sure, life can hold some surprises. One thing you can, and should do, is to find the time to make sure you have all your affairs in order for you and your family.

Planning During Retirement

Now that you’ve retired and are on a fixed income, it is time to create or update your estate plan. This is a new life stage and it has its own particular opportunities and challenges. Read on for questions that will help you get a good sense of what you should be thinking about right now.
