June is one of the most popular months for weddings. You probably already know that. Here are a few fun (and maybe not so fun) facts about the topic of getting married:
- The name June is derived from the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. Families believed that when a couple married in June, they would be happy forever. Hence why June is a favorite month for weddings.
- The average wedding cost in 2023 was nearly $30,000. It now ranges from $34,000 to $36,000. Localized factors can lower the cost to $18,000- $25,000, and, of course, much depends on location and guest count.
- While there are no super reliable statistics available, it is believed only 12% of couples entering marriage have a will, even though 38% agree that marriage motivates them to consider it.
- More than 50% of couples admit they lack even basic estate planning documents, such as a living will or healthcare directive.
- If you don’t have a will, your state of residence decides how your assets are distributed upon your death. Depending on the law in your state, some of your assets could be split with your parents or siblings rather than just going to your spouse.
- If you don’t have a will, state law may also distribute your assets to your parents or siblings rather than to your spouse.
