Wasn’t it Just Yesterday?

If you are like me, you might be surprised to realize we are already halfway through 2024. It went awfully fast, didn’t it? One assumes the next six months will fly by as well. And maybe you’re like me that you take a few minutes about now every year to sit down and reflect on how the year has gone so far. Just a little check-up on those goals set earlier in 24. Are you sticking to your commitments? Are you making progress? Are you on track?

This isn’t about exercising more, losing weight, or eating right. To me, this checklist can cover those areas but can be so much more meaningful.

Here’s a sample checklist that is so much more than losing pounds or counting steps.

PERSONAL ENRICHMENT: Did you intend to sign up for a class, travel to a new destination, or even spend more time in nature? Have you?

RECONNECTING: We are all busy with work and family. Maybe you lost contact with an old friend or distant relative. Did you intend to make 2024 the year you reconnected?

HEALTH: If your health is good (congrats!), it is easy to let routine tests, exams, and vaccinations fall by the wayside. It’s easy to do, but for yourself and your family, it is best to keep up to date with all that.

VOLUNTEERING: Recently, I heard that Americans are some of the most charitable people in the world. I believe that—and not just with our money, but our time, too. Did you intend to explore volunteer opportunities this year? There is still plenty of time and many organizations that could use an extra pair of hands—your hands, maybe?

ESTATE PLANNING: Of course, I have to make sure this is on the list. Life comes at you fast, and changes happen—changes that can impact your estate plan. If you haven’t reviewed your estate planning documents in over a year, why not take a few minutes to do it now?

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: If your 2024 goals included being promoted or finding other career opportunities, activities such as networking, training, and advanced education will likely enhance your chances. You still have half of the year to make good on this one.

This is not a comprehensive list by any means, and I’m sure you could easily add to it. Spending more time with family, getting the house painted, and researching your ancestors are just a few. I just wanted to spark the idea that, at least for me, mid-year is the perfect time to reflect on what I wanted to accomplish during the year and use this time to benchmark how I’m doing. I thought it might be useful to you, too!

I hope you enjoy the rest of 2024 in health, happiness, and well-being.

Very best regards,

 David
